Curry Club runners before the half marathon

Curry Club runners before the half marathon

Four plucky curry club runners took part in this year’s New Forest Half Marathon.  Despite the unseasonally warm weather, good times were recorded by all, although no official timings have been released yet.  Nigel led the pack home in 1 hour 51 minutes, followed by Jerry, Richard and Russ all under two hours.  No injuries to report.
The course changes were well received with fewer miles on busy roads.  The course was as hilly as ever, as witnessed by the course profile shown below.

Thanks are due to Lewis for a welcome rocket fuel stop half way round.  Lucozade Sport – the drink of choice of the Curry Club Runners (unless you’re Richard of course, whose favourite running tipple is Powerade).

As part of a “new strand” of blog articles I thought that it might be of interest(!) to see where Curry Club Runners went running on their holidays. I (Jerry) have just returned from a week with Sarah and the kids at Port Aventura In Salou.

For those that don’t know Port Aventura is a theme park from Universal Studios an hour south of Barcelona and features a number of truly scary rides, such as the Condor. The photo speaks for itself.

Whilst enjoying the theme park, and the excellent Hotel Caribe, I managed to get in five 6 mile runs which really got me out and about the towns of Salou and La Pineda. Highligh for me was being thrown out of the Port Aventura Golf Course and being driven out by asecurity guard at 8:00 o’clock in the morning. Still, the forty mile an hour section on the Forerunner looks pretty good.

Another use for the forerunner was on the rides – great for checking that maximum speed. The Stampida, see video, showed a maximum speed of 45 mph. Altogether, a great holiday well organised by First Choice holidays.

Book early to avoid disapointment ! Remember how the New Forest half marathon gets fully booked by June ? Well, June is here ! Click New Forest Half Marathon for a link to the official site. Looks like you can enter on line this year at the Runners World website.

It cannot go un-recorded that some of the Curry Club Runners, namely Richard N and Nigel, were in fact moonlighting for the Balmer Lawn Health Club team. This was a competition between three hotels in Brockenhurst trying to out perform each other on the Lymington 10K fun run.

Many thanks to Chris and Alison for the excellent refreshments at the end of the run.

The Curry Club Runner – once again, better than the average runner. Conclusive proof that members of the Curry Club Runners consistently out perform the average Lymington 10K runner.

Average time for all runners was 56 minutes 40 seconds.

Average time for the Curry Club Runners 52 minutes, 58 seconds.

On a desperately hot day Rich, Dave, Richard, Nigel, Jerry, Simon, Russ, Steve and Bob all competed for glory. On what was a very pleasant run all CC runners put in a great personal performance.
