The results from the 2008 New Forest Half Marathon are in and yet again they prove the superiority of the average Curry Club Runner. Despite having an average age of 44, six years greater than the average half marathon runner, the Curry Club runners achieved an average race time of 1 hour 54 minutes compared to the half marathon average of just over 2 hours. Even better, the Curry Club “team” came in 16th out of 17th official teams competing.

The results were as follows :

579 Nigel Payne 01:50:53
623 Jeremy Marden 01:51:57
658 Richard Newsom 01:52:57
932 Russ Lomax 01:59:45

Park Guell, Barcelona

Park Guell, Barcelona

As part of a “new strand” of blog articles I thought that it might be of interest(!) to see where Curry Club Runners went running on their holidays. I (Jerry) have just returned from a week with Sarah and the kids at Port Aventura In Salou.

For those that don’t know Port Aventura is a theme park from Universal Studios an hour south of Barcelona and features a number of truly scary rides, such as the Condor. The photo speaks for itself.

Whilst enjoying the theme park, and the excellent Hotel Caribe, I managed to get in five 6 mile runs which really got me out and about the towns of Salou and La Pineda. Highligh for me was being thrown out of the Port Aventura Golf Course and being driven out by asecurity guard at 8:00 o’clock in the morning. Still, the forty mile an hour section on the Forerunner looks pretty good.

Another use for the forerunner was on the rides – great for checking that maximum speed. The Stampida, see video, showed a maximum speed of 45 mph. Altogether, a great holiday well organised by First Choice holidays.
