The Italian Job

Rome Marathon

As you know, you’re only supposed to run the bloody marathon! (For the real Michael Caine quote click here)

Rob has come up with a great idea for exporting the Curry Club Runners to Italy to help solve the curry balance of payments problem. Sadly, as well as savouring the local food and drink and trying to get a curry in Rome, we have to also run a marathon.

So far, Richard Newsom and Rob Gill are signed up but more are sure to follow! If there is one marathon in you, this must surely be it. Clicking the Rome Marathon link should should give you all the information you need.

The run takes place on March 16th and represents a great warm up for the Lymington 10K. I am reliably(?) informed that despite being built on seven hills the Rome marathon is almost completely flat. Unlike London, it is easy and low cost to enter. Once numbers are known, we can look at flights and accomadation for runners and supporters alike, although a complete inclusive package can be found by clicking here.

A special mid week training regime will be devised to assist those in mortal fear.

All in all, a great run with everyone within 10 minutes of each other except for Super Rob who definitely had his mojo working. The CurryClub.com themed sportswear certainly had an effect with many comments, some not too rude, being made by many fellow runners and spectators alike. The blog hits have certainly increased !

Thanks to Virginia for the photography and Sarah for organising the midway Lucozade Sport drinks stop.  Also thanks to Catherine, Mary, Judith and Bob for their support along the course.  Strategically placed and very much welcomed !

There were 1504 runners, average age 38.9 and average time 1 hour 59 minutes 53 seconds. The Curry Club runners had an avearge age of 44.2 and average time of 1 hour 53 minutes 52 seconds. Conclusive proof, if it were needed, that the Curry Club runner is better than the average runner.

Roll on 2008 !
